Immigration Study

Immigration has been an effective means of meeting the workforce needs of employers in Neepawa and the surrounding communities. Now, with a large immigrant population, we’re reviewing available services and identifying areas for improvement.

The purpose of this project was to provide a greater level of understanding of newcomer immigration to Neepawa, the settlement and integration services and supports that currently exist, and the supports needed to meet the needs of newcomers and local employers in Neepawa and communities in the surrounding municipalities.

The research reviewed the current network of services available for newcomers seeking employment, explored the link between language ability and attaining or retaining employment, identified service capacities, and identified and addressed gaps. Recommendations were made for potential future service planning models that meet the needs of newcomers, employers, and other stakeholders in Neepawa and surrounding area that could be used in other rural Manitoba settings.
